“Before We Were Yours” by Lisa Wingate

Lisa Wingate's “Before We Were Yours,” tells the horrifying tale of the Foss children who were kidnapped during the 1930s and placed in a facility where abuse was a regular occurrence. While the story is fictional, the kidnapping, selling and shipping of children are real-life events that did occur during the 1920s and '30s. Lisa Wingate wrote the story so that these children and events would never be forgotten.

Misha Price is the OLLI coordinator for the Abilene area. She received her bachelor's in human services for child and family welfare in 2016 and is currently working toward her master's in marriage and family therapy.
