Self-Paced Courses

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any prerequisites or prior assessments necessary before starting a self-paced course?

No, transcripts are not required to verify previous coursework, so you're not obligated to fulfill prerequisite requirements. However, it's advisable to register for a course with prerequisites only if you're confident in your ability to manage the coursework without prior knowledge.

Do I have to visit a proctoring site for exams?

No, these courses are designed by faculty to be self-contained, and all coursework should be submitted through the Blackboard learning platform. Any special testing requirements will be outlined in the course syllabus.

What is the cost of a course?

Each course is priced individually, displayed alongside its description on the "Courses" tab of this website. Prices vary according to credit hours and reflect Texas Tech University tuition fees, subject to change.

What are self-paced courses, and how are they different from traditional online courses?

Self-paced courses, also known as correspondence courses, are university-level courses students may take to receive college credit. Students in these courses have limited interaction with faculty members. Additionally, students have six months to complete their course and are not tied to traditional academic terms or semesters.

Will these self-paced courses give me college credit?

The self-paced courses are Texas Tech courses taught by Texas Tech faculty and are fully accredited through SACSCOC. They are also eligible for transfer to other institutions. Each student is responsible for determining if these courses meet the transfer requirements of any transferable institution.

What do I do if I experience a problem with my self-paced coursework?

Students in these courses are not Texas Tech University students and will not have access to any Texas Tech University student offices or services. If students experience technical problems with their coursework, please email selfpaced.courses@ttu.edu

Can students take multiple self-paced courses at one time?

Multiple courses may be taken during the same or overlapping time period, and students may take a combination of 3-hour, 4-hour, and 5-hour courses, but students are limited to a maximum of 15 credit hours through the self-paced courses program at the same time to ensure successful completion of the work.

Do self-paced courses qualify for financial aid?

For non-degree seeking students, self-paced courses are not eligible for financial aid.

Will courses be accessible to students with various needs?
