Legal Studies Course Descriptions:
- LGST 3303 – Law and Society
Introduces jurisprudence concepts, examines interdisciplinary relationships between law and society, and helps students understand why law and society are essential in our world. - LGST 3304 – Civil Litigation and the Legal Field
Examines civil procedures and the court system including the role of judges, attorneys, and juries. - LGST 3305 – Criminal Law and Procedure
Familiarizes the student with substantive criminal law and criminal procedures, including constitutional protections, state laws, and procedures from arrest through trial and conviction. - LGST 3307 – Family Law and Public Policy
A study of the general principles of family and domestic law. - LGST 3308 – Law of Torts
Focuses on the fundamental concepts of tort law, which is a civil wrong for which the law provides a remedy. - LGST 3309 – Law of Contracts
Explores how the existence and validity of a contract are determined by specific rules. - LGST 3310 – Laws That Change the World
Explores law's interaction with societal institutions, emphasizing practical skills in critical and legal reasoning through analysis of contemporary legal issues and court resolutions. - LGST 3311 – Property Law
Introduces a range of topics including real estate law, land use regulation, and property rights. - LGST 4300 – Capstone in Legal Studies
This legal analytical project is the culminating experience that permits students to demonstrate their capacity to deeply research a narrow topic concerning legal challenges.
