Book Description:

Kitchen Sink Realisms: Domestic Labor, Dining, and Drama in American Theatre (University Of Iowa Press, 2015) by Dorothy Chansky investigates how domestic labor saturates the lives of dramatic characters even when it does not take center stage. Covering 87 years of plays, musicals, and performance art, the study contests the idea of home as "naturally" women's sphere while problematizing simple ideas of "the real."
