What are you watching/streaming?
My Brilliant Friend (HBO Max) is a beautifully gritty portrait postwar Italy through
the story of two young women's friendship.
What games are you playing?
I am currently exploring trade options to address the lack of wide receiver depth
on my fantasy football team.
What are you listening to?
The late drummer Tony Allen's final album, There Is No End (Blue Note, 2021) brilliantly
blends his afrobeat and jazz inflected drumming with (mostly African) contemporary
hip hop.
The Mountain Goats' new album, Bleed Out (Merge, 2022), is a funny and thoughtful
study of action movies.
What are you reading?
The memoirs of Julia Child (My Life in France) and Jacques Pepin (The Apprentice:
My Life in the Kitchen) are both important to my current research, but they are also
highly enjoyable reads.
What are you writing/thinking about?
I am currently working on a historical portrait of Paris as a global capital of gastronomy
in the modern imagination.
