What is the Vertical Plains Adventure Festival?

Vertical Plains is a celebration of the world we live in with a little climbing thrown in. The Vertical Plains Climbing Competition, West Texas' best competition for skilled and beginning rock climbers, will take place on Saturday February 1st, 2020 . As an added bonus Texas Tech will host a screening of REEL Rock 14 on Friday January 31st.

About the VP Climbing Competition

The annual Vertical Plains Climbing Competition is the biggest event hosted by the Outdoor Pursuits Center every year, and this year's 20th annual event will be no different. It is a climbing competition that draws over 100 competitors from across the southwest and promotes camaraderie, sportsmanship, and the love of climbing. We encourage everyone, regardless of their experience, to join in the competition and have a great time!

REEL Rock 14 Climbing Poster

The Reel Rock Film Tour, one of climbing's greatest celebrations, returns with a new collection of world premiere films. In The High Road, the powerful and bold Nina Williams tests herself on some of the highest, most difficult boulder problems ever climbed. In United States of Joe's climbers collide with a conservative coal mining community in rural Utah, to surprising results. And in The Nose Speed Record, legends Tommy Caldwell and Alex Honnold battle Yosemite dirtbags Jim Reynolds and Brad Gobright in a high stakes race for greatness.

REEL Rock 14 will be hosted at 7 p.m. Jan. 31, 2020 at the Texas Tech SUB Escondido Theater. Doors open at 6:30 and there will be a chance to win prizes.
