The Department of Journalism & Creative Media Industries (JCMI) emphasizes experiential education opportunities that provide immersive learning environments, leading students to produce a robust portfolio of content with support from peer, faculty, alumni, and industry mentors. In producing their work, JCMI students are encouraged from their first day in our degree programs to take advantage of opportunities to get busy “making stuff” and plug in to our robust, collaborative content culture.

The Department of Journalism & Creative Media Industries will be an internationally recognized destination for immersive, hands-on media education and research, where students develop the skills, critical thinking, and industry experience needed to shape the future of communication. By fostering a dynamic learning environment, global industry connections, and an entrepreneurial culture of innovation, JCMI will empower the next generation of storytellers, journalists, and media leaders to make a lasting impact in the world.

JCMI exists to prepare the next generation of storytellers and media innovators by providing cutting-edge education, groundbreaking research, and impactful public service. Through a dynamic blend of experiential learning, industry partnerships, and academic excellence, we equip students with the adaptability, critical thinking, and technical skills needed to excel across journalism and creative media industries. We are the media—shaping the future through ethical storytelling, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a commitment to serving local and global communities.
