For the second consecutive year, Texas Tech's debate team has earned a first-round bid to the National Parliamentary Tournament of Excellence to be held at the University of California Berkeley in March. Texas Tech's team of junior Brian Horton and senior Mike Mitchell is ranked 11th in the nation (click here for rankings), earning them an invitation to the prestigious tournament.

Debaters from Texas Tech's nationally prominent debate team will face the Irish Times national debate champions on the TTU campus on April 6 at 7:00 p.m. in MC 101. Representing the Irish Team on their tour of the United States will be Jeremy Kinsella of the University College of Dublin, and Andrea Mulligan and David Hopkins of Trinity College in Dublin (click here for story).

Dr. Langford's course, "Persuasion and Social Movements", will include a service learning component tentatively titled, "Civic Engagement to Further Social Justice."

Dr. David Williams, Professor, is chosen to be Special Issue Editor of the National Forensic Journal issue on �Awards� and was also chosen to edit Parliamentary Debate: The Journal of the National Parliamentary Debate Association.

During the Democratic and Republican National Conventions Dr. Catherine Langford, Assistant Professor of Communication Studies, served as a faculty mentor to high school students participating in Election Symposia sponsored by The Junior Statesmen Foundation. Dr. Langford was responsible for working with the various state delegations for both conventions so that high school students would have access to convention programming with their respective states. Dr. Langford also lectured on �Notions of Credibility in the 2008 Election� and �Fulfilling the Rhetorical Situation� at both conventions.
