Hispanic Media and Audiences: Professional and Academic Perspectives
Thursday, April 2 and Friday, April 3, 2009 - Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas
A colloquium jointly sponsored by the Vice President for Research, College of Mass Communications, Institute for Hispanic and International Communication, Rawls College of Business and Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Texas Tech University.
Call for papers:
- Papers may use any research methodology that explores the media preferences, consumption habits or political or economic impact of Hispanic/Latino audiences.
- Papers may be no more than 25 pages of double spaced type, including all charts and references.
- Please include a cover page that includes the authors names and both an e-mail address and postal address for the primary author. Please do not identify the author or the author’s affiliation except on the cover page.
- All papers will be blind reviewed by three reviewers.
- At least one author must attend the colloquium to present his or her paper.
- Papers must be received by March 1, 2009 by postal mail or e-mail.

Authors of papers accepted for presentation will be notified by March 6, 2009.
Colloquium format:
- Workshops on Friday morning will be traditional presentations followed by discussions.
- Academic research papers will be presented on Friday afternoon in a round-robin format that encourages discussion and collaboration. Each presenter will lead a 15-minute roundtable discussion of his or her research. Audience members then rotate to a new presenter. These presentations will be made without PowerPoint or other media support and are designed to encourage discussion and to provide the author with insights and ideas for further development of the project.
Colloquium location:
The conference will be held on the campus of Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. The dinner and lecture on Thursday evening and the workshops and research discussions will be at the Merket Alumni Center immediately acorss the street from the conference hotel.
Registration costs:
Registration includes dinner Thursday, and lunch and a reception on Friday. Breakfast Friday is provided for guests at the conference hotel.

Housing:
To reserve a room contact the Stay Bridge hotel directly at 806-765-9800 and inform them you are with the College of Mass Communications. Rates of $99 for a queen suite are guaranteed. Reservations must be made by March 11, 2009.
Travel:
Lubbock is a city of 200,000 located in west Texas approximately 325 miles west of Dallas/Ft. Worth, 325 miles east of Albuquerque, New Mexico and 90 miles south of Amarillo, Texas. Lubbock International Airport is served by Southwest Airlines, American Airlines and Continental Airlines. Cab fares from the airport to the Texas Tech Campus average $15-20. The conference hotel provides shuttle service from the airport to the hotel and the College of Mass Communications will provide a shuttle from the hotel to the colloquium locations.
Financial Support:
The top two student papers and top non-student paper will each receive travel awards of $500. There is one top award per paper. Co-Authors must share the stipend.
