Classes Taught: American Journalism History - MCOM 3350.

Research: Author or coauthor of two books, 10 book chapters, 30 refereed publications and 85 refereed papers. His work has appeared in Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, Political Communication, Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media, Newspaper Research Journal, Mass Comm Review and Harvard International Journal of Press/Politics, among others. His fields of interest are public opinion and political communication research, particularly the role of new media in presidential elections. More recently, he has concentrated on how people use the Internet and what effect online media have on them.

Experience: 18 years as professor and five years as Director of Graduate Studies at Southern Illinois University. Also worked as a newspaper reporter.

Leadership / awards: Member of editorial board of Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, Southern Illinois University College of Mass Communication and Media Arts Outstanding Scholar 2005, 2001.
