Helen Hodges Educational Charitable Trust Scholarships

The Trustees of the Helen Hodges Educational Charitable Trust are pleased to announce that the Helen Hodges Educational Charitable Trust will again be offering scholarships to deserving graduate and undergraduate students (with at least 60 hours toward the degree). We anticipate making 10-12 awards this year, based on academic achievement, financial need, a personal statement, and interviews with finalists. Attached is a sheet that can be posted to announce the availability of the awards, as well two Microsoft Word versions of the 2013 application form, one that can be filled electronically and another that is more appropriate to be filled in by hand. Here's an overview of our awards:
Who May Apply
- Students who are attending institutions in or who are from the South Plains area
- Undergraduates who have completed at least 60 semester hours (junior standing)
- Graduate students

Anticipated Amount of the Awards:
- $1000 for undergraduates
- $1250 for graduates

Application Procedures:
- Complete an application form available from area higher education financial aid offices or online at http://www.ttuhsc.edu/som/fammed/hhect.aspx
- Attach transcripts of college work and a hand-written statement of goals (these do not need to be official stamped copies and will not be returned)
- Send six collated and stapled copies of the application, transcripts and goals statement to the Trust Department, Prosperity Bank on 14th & Avenue Q in Lubbock, by Wednesday, July 15, 2013

The application process for undergraduate and graduate students is open. PFP AMBASSADORS serve as official representatives of the department and an extension of the faculty for department events, hosting for professional visits, student recruiting, mentoring, public relations, social media, and marketing (print, display). In addition to the opportunity to serve the department you can receive benefits such as a travel stipend and letters of recommendations from Dr. Hampton, Department Chair, and other faculty. NAPFA Genesis Offers Generous New Scholarships

NAPFA Genesis is now offering two new scholarship programs.

The first scholarship will cover conference registration fees, travel and hotel reimbursement for NAPFA's spring and fall conferences. It's ideal for new advisors seeking an opportunity to meet and network with peers, as well as learn about the full range of financial planning and practice management issues. The scholarships are open to Genesis members, and the application deadline for the Spring Conference is April 12.

Genesis also supports people who are seeking to become financial advisors, so it is seeking qualified candidates to award CFP® scholarships to throughout the year. This scholarship will reimburse the full exam fee if the individual passes the exam within 12 months of the award. Interested Genesis members should complete all application information by May 1 to be considered eligible for the July 2013 exam.

TD Ameritrade Institutional NexGen Scholarship and Grant Program

The Scholarship program will award ten $5,000 scholarships to deserving and talented students. Applicants may apply now through May 15, 2013. The Scholarships will be awarded to students on August 1, 2013. The Grant Program will award one $50,000 grant to the university that best demonstrates a commitment to educating the industry's future financial professionals. Applications open on April 15, 2013 through June 1, 2013. The grant will be awarded to the university on June 1, 2013. Merit-based Scholarships

The DFW FPA Chapter is offering merit-based scholarships to help graduating students pursue their CFP certification. The application deadline is Tuesday, April 30th. If you are selected as one of the scholarship winners and pass your CFP exam within the specified timeframe, FPA will pay you $600. Paul Mills Scholarship Program

The Board of Trustees for the Foundation for Financial Services Professionls had decided to expand the Paul Mills Scholarship program and provide needs-based scholarships to students pursuing undergraduate degrees. Three to six students will each receieve scholarships of $1,000 made payable to the school. Applications are available at http://www.financialpro.org/foundation/awards/psm.htm and must be submitted by 11:59 pm ET on April 15th. Government & Public Services Internship Program

Applications are currently being accepted for the Government & Public Services Internship Program for the Fall 2013 Semester. All majors are encourages to apply and selected students receive a $4,000 scholarship from the Texas Tech Office of the President. Applications are due by Friday, March 8th, 2013. Information sessions will be held on February 21st at 5:30 PM in the McCoy Atrium of the Rawls College of Business, as well as on February 26th at 5:30 PM in the same location. Volunteer Opportunity

Looking for a volunteer opportunity that is flexible and will enhance your resume? The Shallowater Boys and Girls Club is looking for students that are willing to tutor in their afterschool program. Northwestern Mutual Internship Information Session

Northwestern Mutual will be holding a Internship Information Session on Tuesday, February26th at 6:00 pm at the Texas Tech business school. Northwestern Mutual is not part of Opportunity Days, but they will be here during Opportunity Days week and are very interested in finding PFP students for internships.

Fidelity Information Session

Fidelity will be visiting our PFPA Meeting on Tuesday, February 26th at 7PM in Room 122. Come hungry because McAlister's will be served! One advisor visiting is actually a TTU PFP Alumnus and will be holding a short Q&A session at the end of the meeting.
