Chance Brooks, Ph.D.
Department Chair & Professor, Department of Animal and Food Sciences
Dr. Chance Brooks serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Animal and Food
Sciences at Texas Tech University. A Texas Tech alumnus, he leads one of the university’s
largest and most comprehensive academic units, recognized nationally for excellence
in animal agriculture, food systems, equine science, companion animal science, and
meat science.
As Chair, Dr. Brooks oversees strategic planning, faculty development, graduate education
growth, and operational alignment across teaching, research, and outreach. His leadership
emphasizes student success, experiential learning, research competitiveness, and strong
partnerships with industry and alumni.
Under his direction, the department advances science-based solutions that improve
animal health and performance, strengthen human–animal connections, and support resilient
animal-sourced food systems.
Dr. Brooks’ approach is grounded in integrity, accountability, community, excellence,
and grit. He is committed to preparing ethical, workforce-ready graduates while elevating
the department’s research productivity, outreach impact, and national standing.
