Program Overview

Coursework

The certificate can be undertaken during a master's, doctoral, or as a stand-alone certificate. All students must apply to the ABA concentration through the Burkhart Center for Autism Education and Research and be approved by the concentration faculty.

This certificate is issued by the TTU Graduate School and is not endorsed by any agency (e.g., Texas Education Agency or Behavior Analyst Certification Board). This does not lead to teaching credentials or certification.

All certificate only students must begin and complete the entire coursework sequence (ABA 1 through ABA 6) and meet all specified prerequisites to receive the TTU Graduate School ABA Certificate. No transferring or substitution of ABA coursework will be permitted.

Students who wish to switch to a master's degree seeking program must complete a new application, undergo review, and be approved by voting faculty.

All certificate only students should note that they must have a master's in (1) education, (2) psychology, or (3) ABA in order to meet the BACB certification requirements. For latest information, please visit www.bacb.com

What Makes This a Hybrid Program?

ONLINE DISCUSSIONS: This program is offered online, and as part of the distance program at TTU students are required to attend online, synchronous discussions for the courses. These meetings typically occur bi-weekly and more information will be provided to students about when to meet at the beginning of each course.

SUMMER WORKSHOP: Students in this program are required to attend a three-day workshop during the summer following the fall semester they begin the program. This intensive training workshop is held in Lubbock at the Burkhart Center for Autism Education and Research on the TTU campus, is part of the intensive practicum experience, and focuses on hands-on learning as well as in-person training with your faculty and staff who work with you throughout the program.

PRACTICUM EXPERIENCE:

The Burkhart Center for Autism requires students to complete an Intensive Practicum experience as part of their graduate school certificate.

Our practicum supervisors, who are all Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) are able to provide online support for our graduate students through required weekly check ins via video conference. Practicum supervisors are also able to provide graduate students with an additional two to three on-site visits at the students' school or clinic where they are completing their hours toward certification. Upon completion of the degree plan, this experience allows for graduate students to sit for the BACB certification exam with no further supervision requirements necessary outside the degree plan.
