Burkhart Walk for Autism Awareness
Burkhart Center Friends, Family, and Colleagues,
Following the CDC's and Texas Tech University's most recent recommendations, we are deeply saddened to announce that our 15th Annual Burkhart Walk for Autism Awareness set for April 26th is canceled.
The Burkhart Center will still celebrate Autism Awareness Month and World Autism Awareness Day throughout the month of April with a digital approach. We encourage you to join us online by following our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
For more information about the Texas Tech University response to the COVID-19 situation, and for the most recent details about that response, please visit the university FAQ here.
Every year hundreds of families attend the Burkhart Walk for Autism Awareness!
On this day, we walk to raise awareness of autism spectrum disorders while celebrating the lives of individuals living with autism, their families, and the professionals who work with them. This is a kid-friendly event, and you will find inflatables, games, and other activities for children. We hope to have special appearances from the Masked Rider, Raider Red, TTU Student-Athletes, TTU Head Coaches, and even a few Star Wars and Disney characters! In addition, agency representatives and autism service providers will be on hand to share information about resources available in our community. Free t-shirts will be distributed while supplies last.
All proceeds from this year's event will fund programming at the Burkhart Center. Our mission is to increase the quality of life for individuals with autism and their families by providing services, preparing educators and conducting research.
The walk is held at the TTU John Walker Soccer Complex. Please note, there are no pets or food allowed inside the soccer complex.
More walk information and registration details will be released closer to April 2020.
