Undergraduate Programs Department of English

The Bachelor of Arts in English offers a comprehensive education in literature, language, and writing, preparing you for a wide range of careers in today's competitive job market. The English department offers the BA in English in a variety of modalities: Fully onsite, hybrid (with a mixture of onsite and online synchronous and asynchronous courses), and fully online (with fully asynchronous courses). Students taking upper-division English courses have the opportunity to work closely with the department's nearly 60 full-time faculty.

The BA in Writing, Design, and Technical Communication caters to a broad array of careers in professional writing, information design, and technical communication. The BA in Writing, Design, and Technical Communication can be earned both onsite and online. If you have ever considered a professional career as a writer, editor, or information designer, then you have arrived at the right degree program.

The Department offers or participates in seven undergraduate minors: Asian Studies; Book History and Digital Humanities; English; Film and Media Studies; Linguistics; Literature, Social Justice, and the Environment; and Writing, Design, and Technical Communication.

The Undergraduate Writing Certificate allows students to add a valuable skill to their resume and develop valuable techniques for today's competitive job market. Only requires 5 writing courses, and can be earned both online and onsite.

Our four-course undergraduate UX Certificate allows students to learn the hands-on fundamentals of UX research, design, and writing methodologies. This certificate will help any design, technology, content management, or digital communication student to stand out in 21st-century hiring markets. Available both onsite and online.
