Student Athlete Honored on Lady Raider Basketball Team

Community, Family, and Addiction Sciences Major Maximizes Academic Success

CFAS major Brittany Brewer Texas Tech College of Human SciencesCommunity, Family, and Addiction Sciences (CFAS) major Brittany Brewer leads a busy academic career at Texas Tech University as a student-athlete for the Lady Raider Basketball team. Over the course of last year's season, Brittany earned Academic All-Big 12 first-team honors.

Brittany was also the first Texas Tech women's basketball player to be named to the Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-America first team.

The former Wylie standout, a junior pursuing a degree in Community, Family and Addiction Sciences, has a 4.0 grade-point average. She was named to the Google Cloud All-District first team for the second straight season.

Before she graduates in August, Brittany plans to finish out her academic record on a high note, something that she says is definitely doable as a student-athlete and CFAS major.

"I've received wonderful support from all of my professors throughout my college career," Brittany said. "They are flexible with my schedule and do their best to make sure I do not get behind."

For Brittany, her choice in major goes beyond the flexibility and support of faculty.

"The CFAS major sets the student-athlete up to give back. We've all received so much support and if you are passionate about making a difference and giving back to your community, this is the perfect major."

The desire to make a difference in the lives of others has always been a driving force for Brittany, which is why she says CFAS is the perfect route for her aspiration of working in a non-profit. Another option she is considering is to start her own non-profit that benefits impoverished communities.

To Brittany, a distinctive aspect of Texas Tech's Community, Family, and Addiction Sciences program is the incorporated Addictive Disorders and Recovery Studies courses.

"The ADRS courses in this program are so unique and with this rise in addiction throughout the United States, Texas Tech is very proactive to include these courses."

Update: Congratulations to Brewer for becoming the first Lady Raider in 24 years to be a member of a Pan American Games Team and Team USA.
