Are People Afraid of Snakes at Birth?
Snakes are predators of many primate species, and testing in babies indicates that humans can detect snakes at birth.
The chart below shows that when infants are shown pictures of fish or snakes their pupils dilate (an indicator of fight or flight response) only during the time (gray bar) that the snake image is shown.
