Academic Program & Course Development
The Office of the Provost supports the development, review, and approval of new academic programs and courses at Texas Tech University. We work with faculty, academic leaders, and campus partners to ensure that all proposals align with state regulations, accreditation requirements, and institutional goals. This process is designed to be comprehensive and transparent, helping to demystify administrative steps so faculty can focus on driving innovation.
The Academic Program & Course Development Process supports:
- Creation of a new course or program at TTU.
- Edits/Modifications to an existing course or program at TTU.
- Deletion of an existing course or program at TTU.
This site provides resources, timelines, and guidance to help you navigate each step of the process.
Starting January 1, 2026, you will see the following updates to the program & course development process:
- We are moving to twice-a-year approvals for new programs and courses and changes to existing programs and courses while continuing to accept proposals year-round.
- All approved changes will take effect in the Fall term to align with the publication of the Undergraduate & Graduate Catalog.
- A pre-planning meeting with the Office of the Provost will be required for all new program proposals.
- Proposals will be shared during a 30-day comment period before formal review at Academic Council.

Workflow Steps
All curricular proposals must go through some or all of the following stages of approval. Not all of the stages will apply to every proposal. Some stages proceed in chronological order, while some stages may be completed concurrently.
- 1. Initiation:
- Faculty prepare and launch proposals, often following pre-planning meetings and required notifications.
- 2. Curriculog Approvals:
- Proposals move through internal department, college, and university committee approvals.
- 3. External Approvals:
- Certain proposals require review by the Board of Regents, THECB, or SACSCOC, depending on the type of change.
- 4. Implementation:
- Approved proposals are entered into Banner and activated for students, with changes taking effect in the fall.
Schedule and Timeline
While the Curriculog system remains open year-round, formal processing happens twice per year, once during the Standard cycle and again during the Late cycle. If your materials are ready, you are encouraged to submit without waiting for a specific deadline.
From start to finish, the full approval process can take up to 18 months, depending on the type of proposal and the required reviews.
All approved changes, regardless of submission timing, take effect in the Fall term to align with the annual publication of the Academic Course Catalog.

All curriculum changes must be submitted through the appropriate online Curriculog form.
Curriculog automates curriculum approval process workflows ensuring all changes to TTU courses and programs are reviewed, approved, and documented for future reference.
