Advancing Research Impact in Society
Texas Tech University was selected as one of seven university organizations to join the Center for Advancing Research Impact in Society (ARIS) . The ARIS Enhance Organizational Research Impact Capacity (ORIC) program is a two-year initiative that provides resources and professional development to help faculty enhance the societal impact of their research.
Societal impacts refer to the potential for a research project to benefit society or advance desired societal outcomes.
Collaborative Structure
- Office of Research and Innovation
- ARIS
- Outreach and Engagement
These three components work collaboratively to support research impact.
Why It Matters
When applying for federal grants, many require a societal impact component. Including this element can significantly strengthen proposals and improve funding success rates.
Societal Impacts
Examples of societal impact activities include:
- Design curricula for K–12 classrooms
- Host professional development workshops for teachers
- Visit K–12 classrooms or host students on campus
- Develop educational programs open to the public
- Design exhibits for museums
Workshops and opportunities are held throughout the year for faculty interested in engaged scholarship. Join the Engaged Scholars and Practitioner (ESP) Network to receive updates and support.
