Societal Impact Fellows

The Societal Impact Fellows Program supports Texas Tech faculty and staff in advancing the societal impact of their research, programs and initiatives. The program is designed to strengthen participants' understanding of how societal impact can be identified, developed and integrated into grant proposals and other scholarly work.

Faculty and staff interested in developing proposals for external funding with a focus on societal impact are encouraged to participate. The program encompasses all university mission areas, including learning, discovery and engagement.

Selected fellows receive a $1,000 stipend for participating in and completing the semester-long program.

Program Focus

Fellows develop a societal impact portfolio during the fellowship while refining the goals, outcomes and broader significance of their work.

Participants work to:

• Identify and describe a proposal with clear societal benefit and scholarly output with impact.
• Work with faculty mentors to develop appropriate short- and long-term goals for their project.
• Demonstrate an understanding of societal impact through completion of a grant proposal executive summary and logic model.
• Attend required workshops and webinars.

Fellowship Experience

The fellowship provides structured time, mentorship and practical tools to help participants strengthen the public impact of their work. Fellows explore how their research, programs or initiatives can contribute to meaningful outcomes beyond the university.

Throughout the semester, fellows may work on activities such as:

• Refining project goals and timelines with faculty mentors.
• Participating in workshops and webinars focused on impact design and planning.
• Developing a societal impact portfolio.
• Preparing a grant proposal executive summary.
• Creating a logic model that identifies intended outcomes and societal benefits.

The program is intended for faculty and staff whose work has the potential to create measurable societal benefit through research, teaching, outreach, community partnerships, public policy, social innovation or other forms of engaged scholarship.
