Texas Tech University

The Office of Academic Engagement

The Office of Academic Engagement was established in fall 2015 under the Office of the Provost to provide innovative, collaborative, and strategic leadership and support for the university's strategic priority of engagement with communities across the region, state, nation, and the world.

Engagement crosses all three missions – Research, Teaching, and Service – and ties to the work of Faculty, Staff, and Students. It involves members of the university and the community working together to address a community-identified need or pressing societal issue, while leveraging academic expertise and resources with the knowledge and experiences of community partners in mutually beneficial and respectful ways.

Our office promotes and supports Community Engagement in the following ways:

  • We help identify and connect community needs with faculty interests and expertise.
  • We facilitate partnerships between faculty and individuals or organizations outside of the university.
  • We support the design, implementation, and assessment of engagement activities.
  • We strive to maximize synergies and coordination of engagement activities across academic disciplines, administrative units, and programs.
  • We collect and maintain data on faculty and staff engagement activities via the annual Raiders Engaged instrument.
  • We serve as liaison and resource for faculty, staff, and community partners.
  • We highlight and recognize faculty, staff, and student engagement with communities.
  • We provide professional development opportunities on relevant engagement topics.
