Dr. Serra-Moreno joined the Texas Tech Department of Biological Sciences in 2014 as a tenure-track Assistant Professor. Prior to her current employment at Tech (2012-2014), Dr. Serra-Moreno held a junior group leader position as an Instructor at Harvard Medical School, where she also worked as a post-doctoral fellow in the lab of Dr. David T. Evans (2008-2012). Dr. Serra-Moreno obtained her doctorate with summa cum laude in 2007 from the University of Barcelona (Spain). Throughout her career, Dr. Serra-Moreno has investigated a wide range of aspects in virology, particularly of viruses that establish latent infections, such as the Shiga toxin-encoding lambdoid phages, and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

The current research program in Dr. Serra-Moreno's lab is focused on understanding the host-HIV interactions at the molecular level. Particularly, how HIV evades the innate mechanisms of defense of its target cells. Understanding how HIV overcomes these innate barriers will allow us to design better drugs to contain this infection and precluding HIV from causing AIDS.
