2013 Outstanding Alumni

Todd Chambers earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism in 1988 from the College of Media & Communication at Texas Tech University. He later earned a master's degree in Mass Communications in 1994, also from Texas Tech. He received his doctorate in communication in 2000 from the University of Tennessee.

Now Chambers is the chairperson for the Department of Journalism & Electronic Media & Communication within the college he once attended at Texas Tech. He is an associate professor of journalism and electronic media. His research and teaching interests include media management and economics, ownership, sports, sales, and programming. He has published articles about media ownership, radio programming, Spanish-language radios, and sports media sales in the Journal of Media Economics, Journalism & Mass Communications Quarterly, Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media, the International Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media, the International Journal on Media Management and Journal of Radio Studies.

He has co-authored book chapters about the economics of the cable industry and media consolidation. He has worked on multiple grant projects from the National Association of Broadcasters dealing with joint news operations in television, advertising clutter in radio, and the perception of media sales representatives.

He has taught 21 different courses for the department and college since arriving at Texas Tech in 1999.

At the College of Media & Communication, Chambers has helped re-launch the student radio station, KTXT-FM, the Raider 88.1, and other student-based media initiatives such as the Hub@TTU and Double T Insider.

He serves on the board for the American Cancer Society and is actively involved in leadership roles with Relay For Life.
