Fiber and Biopolymer Research Institute (FBRI)

History - The Fiber and Biopolymer Research Institute was donated to Texas Tech University in 1984 to conduct research dealing with cotton from breeding to manufacturing.  The FBRI utility plant provides heating, cooling, and humidification services to the facility.

Chilled Water Capacity - The plant includes three electric chillers capable of producing 900 tons of cooling capacity.

Steam Capacity -  The plant has one low pressure 15 pounds per square inch steam boiler, one high pressure 150 pounds per square inch steam boiler, and two hot water boilers capable of producing 1 million BTU per hour.  All boilers are natural gas fired.

Includes - The FBRI utility plant provides its services to 105,987 square feet. Services include: steam for heating and humidification, chilled water for cooling, and also provides a limited supply of compressed air and reverse osmosis water to the institute .  The plant has a 60 kilowatt emergency generator.

Budget - The FBRI utility plant operates under the CHACP I budget.

Museum of Texas Tech University 

History - The Texas Tech University Museum  was constructed in 1970.  In 1990 a plant expansion was completed, adding  two new Cooling Towers, two Chillers, and Lochinvar Hot Water Boilers for Comfort Heat to the Building.

Chilled Water Capacity - The plant includes three electric chillers capable of producing 1,100 tons of cooling capacity.

Steam Capacity - The plant has two 80HP Scotch Marine type Fire Tube Steam Boilers to Control Humidity Levels, and hot water boilers capable of up to 8 million BTU capacity of comfort heating.

Includes - The Museum utility plant provides its services to 238,554 square feet. Services include: hot water for heating, steam for humidification, chilled water for cooling.

Budget - The Museum utility plant operates under the CHACP I budget.
