microbiology, production, management, care, and value-added processing of animal products.
Animal Science and Food Science graduates are employed in all phases of production,
research, sales, service, business, and education around the world.

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE
Animal Science
A Bachelor of Science in Animal Science involves hands-on learning across a broad range of topics, including animal health, genetics, nutrition, and behavior. With an Industry Concentration, students receive instruction in management, nutrition, and diseases that prepares them to enter livestock, meat, or companion animal industries. Our Science Concentration serves as the core concentration fro pre-professional students who are interested in pursuing advanced degrees in veterinary medicine, dentistry, physical therapy, human medicine, and more.
BACHELOR OF SCIENCE
Food Science
A degree in Food Science prepares students to fully understand the processing, preservation, safety, and invention of foods. An Industry Concentration combines science and technology to prepare students for careers in food production, manufacturing, product development, and other food industries. Our Science Concentration follows learning objectives recommended by the Institute of Food Technologists, preparing students for advanced studies or pre-professional pathways.

MASTER OF SCIENCE
Animal Science
Available in both thesis and non-thesis, a Master of Science degree in Animal Science can range in studies between animal breeding, nutrition, animal behavior and welfare, growth and development, livestock production, companion animal science, equine science, equine-assisted therapy, or meat science.
MASTER OF SCIENCE
Food Science
Available in both thesis and non-thesis, a Master of Science degree in Food Science emphasizes the scientific and technological aspects of pre- to post-harvest food processing and distribution. Knowledge of the physical and biological sciences, economics, marketing, and engineering is applied to product development, food processing, packaging, food microbiology and safety, food defense, food security, quality control, technical sales, and distribution.

Animal Science
Each Doctoral degree in Animal Science is designed by the graduate student and their advisors, and prepares students for any number of industry and academic positions in the animal and food industries, from genetics to reproductive physiology to meat science.

If you're interested in horse management, nutrition, horsemanship, or equine-assisted therapy, our Equine Science Certificate might be an option worth pursuing.
Department of Animal & Food Science Academic Resources
One way that we show our students we care is through our outstanding scholarship program. Students in the Department of Animal and Food Sciences have an excellent chance of receiving a scholarship. Maintaining at least a 3.0 GPA, becoming active in the department, and participating on judging teams are all ways to enhance your chances of receiving a scholarship.
Most of the scholarship money is set up in endowments ensuring that our scholarship program will continue for many years to come. We are very thankful for our alumni and donors who allow us to reward our students.
Each semester, students are required to meet with their advisor before registering for classes. This requirement helps students stay on track, and the relationships they build with their advisors motivate and encourage them to reach their goals.
