Bachelor of General Studies inGeneral Studies

This degree is NOT open to all students and is specifically developed to provide a path to degree completion for students with a significant number of hours (90 or more) or other extenuating circumstances. Please contact one of our Program Advisors for additional information.

THIS DEGREE IS MADE UP OF

  • 44 hours of State of Texas Core Curriculum (link to Catalog or more permanent Core Curriculum information)
  • 11 hours of General Education
    • 3 hours in Additional Language, Philosophy, & Culture
    • 3 hours in Additional Creative Arts
    • 3 hours in Additional Social & Behavioral Sciences
    • 2 hours of different activities in Personal Fitness & Wellness
  • 54 hours of coursework within an area focus:
  • Each focus is composed of a variety of coursework related to the area.
    • Applied STEM
    • Arts & Sciences
    • Liberal Arts & Humanities
    • Life Sciences
    • Social Sciences
  • At least 30 hours of coursework must come from A&S disciplines.
  • Two courses must carry the Communication Literacy (CL) attribute; of which, one must be from an A&S discipline.
  • At least 24 hours of major coursework must be taken at the Junior/Senior (3000:4999) level.
  • At least 18 hours of major coursework must be taken in residence; of which, at least 9 in residence hours must be taken at the Junior/Senior (3000:4999) level.

  General Degree Requirements

  • All undergraduate degrees require a minimum of 120 total completed hours.*
  • All undergraduate degrees at Texas Tech require a minimum of 40 completed hours at the Junior/Senior level*
  • At least 30 hours must be taken in residence.

 

*Elective hours may be required to meet degree and university hour count requirements.
