Scott Franklin, Ph.D.
Biography
Dr. Franklin started at TTU as an Associate Professor of Practice in Computer Science in 2024. He comes to Tech from Wayland Baptist University, where he was a professor of computer science and mathematics beginning in 2000. During that time at WBU, he also worked as Associate Dean of the School of Math and Sciences (2010-2012), Director of Online Programs (2012-2015), and Dean of the School of Math and Sciences (2015-2019). He received both his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Applied Mathematics from Texas Tech University and recently completed an additional Masters in Computer Science from Georgia Tech with an emphasis in Machine Learning.
His research interests include deep learning applications in Physics Informed Neural Nets (PINNs), Computer Vision, Stochastic Partial Differential Equations, and Bioinformatics, although his greatest professional interests lie in Computer Science Education and how to equip his students for a successful and fulfilling CS career. He is an avid science fiction reader, loves designing 3D models and 3D printing them, and is obsessed with twisty puzzles (e.g., Rubik's and Rubik's-like puzzles).
Research Interest:
Physics Informed Neural Nets (PINNs), Computer Vision, Stochastic Partial Differential Equations, Bioinformatics, and Computer Science Education
