Vision

Through an increase sense of belonging and expanded network of support, FGTMP seeks to increase First Generation Undergraduate retention & graduation rates.

History

2020 | Expanding Student Success Services to all TTU First Gen Undergraduate Students

In 2020, FGTMP expanded by opening First Gen Peer Mentorship and other student success activities to all TTU First Gen undergraduate students. Serving first year students through their university life experience allows FGTMP to meet students where they are at and offer relevant and intentional support at the various phases of academic journey. FGTMP focuses on: peer mentorship, social engagement, and student success activities in an effort to increase undergraduate student sense of belonging at TTU.

2014 | Second Year Student Success for First Generation Students

In 2014, we designed the Second Year Success pipeline for First Gen students in their second year. Through these uniquely designed programs, we are able to address the educational achievement gap for First Gen students, of all cultures, by providing academic support, mentoring, and outreach opportunities. Together, both programs serve as supportive communities that help each student transition through their first year and second years of college. By including peer mentorship, FGTMP continued to increase retention and success rates of First Gen students and underrepresented populations.

2002 | Closing the Gap for Texas Tech University First Generation Students

Inspired by the state of Texas' Closing the Gaps initiative, First Generation Transition and Mentoring Programs (FGTMP) created the PEGASUS program in 2002. The program was established in response to the increase of underrepresented and First Generation students enrolling at Texas Tech University. At this time FGTMP served First Year Students exclusively.
