FGTMP Peer Mentor Application | Applications for 2023-2024 Open February 2023!
FGTMP includes a First-Generation Peer Mentorship Program that provides peer mentorship to undergraduate students. The Peer Mentor position is a paid position that is filled by currently enrolled TTU Undergraduate students.

First-Gen Peer Mentors:
- Are sophomore, junior, or senior students.
- Are assigned a caseload of first-generation students.
- Meet with their assigned students in one-on-one meetings to build a connection, help them navigate campus, and share resources for their success.
- Participate in FGTMP and Division of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion training, activities, and events.
Minimum Requirements:
Applicant must:
- Be a First Generation Student (TTU defines a first-generation student as a student who did not have either parent(s) or guardian(s) earn a Bachelor's degree in the United States).
- Be an undergraduate or a graduate student who has completed at least 2 semesters at Texas Tech.
- Be able to dedicate 10-15 hours per week to the Peer Mentor position.
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75.
Preferred Requirements
- Have been an active participant in FGTMP Peer Mentorship Program in a previous semester.
- Will be enrolled for both Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 semesters and can commit to the position for those 2 semesters.
Compensation
- $10.00 hourly.
- 15 hours maximum per week.
- Work-Study and Non-Work-Study positions available.
Mandatory Fall and Spring Peer Mentor Training
All Peer Mentors are required to attend mandatory fall and spring Peer Mentor Training. This typically happens the week before the first week of class.
Peer Mentor Training provides a space for the FGTMP Leadership Team to share updates on department/university goals, roles & responsibilities as well as an opportunity for the peer mentors to connect as a team.
Application & Interviews
FGTMP recruits for new Peer Mentors each fall and spring semester. Applicants will be considered if they have submitted all application materials by the deadline. Applicants that are being considered will receive an email invitation to move forward for an interview.
Interviews will take place from March-April 2023 and offers will be made the before the end of the Spring 2023 semester.
