 M.A.L.E.S. SYMPOSIUM

In an attempt to address the disparity in participation and success of male retention in education, The Division of Institutional Diversity, Equity & Community Engagement will host the TTU MALES (Men Attaining Leadership Excellence and Success) Symposium, October 6th -7th , 2016. During the one and a half day symposium a myriad of national, state, and local leaders will gather to discuss issues, concerns and best practices regarding male student achievement and persistence in education. Designated tracks will be available for stakeholders (educators, administrators, parents, etc.) and both secondary and college students.

Symposium attendees will participate in breakout sessions, town-hall style discussions, and panels. Sessions, discussions and panels and will focus on the importance of male academic achievement, retention, matriculation, community involvement, social justice and more. Additionally, attendees will have opportunities to make recommendations regarding increasing the numbers of males who graduate from high school and enroll into and matriculate from higher education institutions.

Dr. Steve Perry will serve as the keynote speaker for the event. Other confirmed presenters include: Dr. Richard A. Baker, J.D., Assistant Vice Chancellor and Vice President of the Office of Equal Opportunity Services, University of Houston System; Dr. Victor B. Sáenz, Associate Professor/Director Project MALES, University of Texas at Austin; Dr. Gregory Vincent, Vice President, Division of Diversity and Community Engagement, University of Texas at Austin; and Dr. Fernando Valle, Associate Professor, Texas Tech University Educational Psychology and Leadership.
