Welcome

[00:00:08 – 00:00:37] This video introduces you to Cognos Analytics, the new version of Cognos. When you log in, you're directed to the portal, which has an updated user interface. Notice there is a navigation toolbar on the left menu and an application toolbar across the top. In the center is the main area for interacting with report content. Looking in the left navigation toolbar, you will see a folder labeled Team Content.

Team Content

[00:00:37 – 00:01:06] When you click on Team Content, you will recognize the folder structure to be like that of the previous version of Cognos. Find the main folder housing the reports that you need to execute and click on it. In the subfolder, find the category of reports desired and in the final folder, click on the report link to bring up the parameter page for the report.

Parameters

[00:01:06 – 00:01:34] Simply enter your parameters and execute the report as you previously did. In the left menu is a new folder labeled My Content. This replaces My Folder. Within this area, you're able to save a report view, go back, click on the view, and see that report as of the date that it was executed. A new folder is one labeled Recent.

Shortcuts

[00:01:34 – 00:02:02] In this area, you will find shortcuts to the reports that you have executed recently. This gives you quick access to those reports that you use most often. To remove a report from the Recent area, click on the dots to the right of the report link and choose “Remove from Recent.” Across the top is the application toolbar.

Log

[00:02:02 – 00:02:34] There is a dropdown to the right of Welcome. This area will house the reports that you have executed during your current login session. It also houses the link to take you back to the main page of Cognos. The reports that you executed during your session will be erased when you log out of your current session. To the far right is a person icon, and when you open this icon, you will find the Sign Out link that you should use.
