Carla Holeva was awarded the Human Development and Family Sciences Alumni Award

Human Development and Family Sciences (HDFS) alumna Carla Holeva currently serves as the Director of Development for the American Civil Liberties Union of Texas. As an active member of the Human Development and Family Sciences Advisory Board, Holeva was chosen as this year’s recipient of the HDFS Alumni Award.

In her current role as Director of Development, Holeva feels the teamwork atmosphere allows her to thoroughly enjoy the work she does.

“I use many of the lessons learned from HDFS in this role,” Holeva said. “It’s still all about relationships, communication, and serving our communities.”

American Civil Liberties Union of Texas is the leading civil rights organization in Texas, allowing Holeva to use skills learned from her degree in Human Development and Family Sciences.

The department selected Carla Holeva for the HDFS Alumni Award in recognition of her contribution of persistent help. The recipient of the award is a member of the Human Development and Family Sciences Advisory Board who displays positive attributes allowing for students to have a role model in their lives. The alumni also use their voice to publicly support the HDFS department while building relationships across students, faculty, and alumni.

Holeva also serves on the Human Development and Family Sciences Advisory Board as a member who shows enthusiasm for the department’s ability to grow alumni relations. Throughout Holeva’s involvement with the board, students and members of the department have been able to witness her consistent support towards creating connections with alumni.

Holeva’s passion for the board stems from her desire to be involved with the College Human Sciences after graduation, which is something she says is bringing back nostalgic memories.

“I feel like I am back involved with my college...just without any papers due,” Holeva said. “I get to meet students and hear what all the college is doing, certain events, and scholarships. It reaffirms what I've always known that this is one of the best degrees in education you can get.”

As an alumna from HDFS, Holeva has seen the importance of being able to communicate effectively with individuals as well as having the knowledge of how people grow throughout their lifespan.

Holeva’s advice for current HDFS students at Texas Tech University is to be open to adventures, even if it’s something out of your comfort zone.

“Our degree can truly be adapted into many different professions,” Holeva said. “Seek and reach out to alumni to help you in the market. It is about relationships, conversations, and connections. Let us help support you!”
