Kathy Gilbreath Memorial
Kathy Gilbreath graduated from Texas Tech University College of Human Sciences in 1973. Gilbreath dedicated her life to serving others and her community. After returning to Lubbock, she focused on community advocacy and fundraising. She worked with many organizations, including United Way of Lubbock, Womens Protective Services, and South Plains Food Bank.
Gilbreath then moved to Texas Tech in 1984 and served in many roles, including Assistant Director of Development, Director of Special Projects, Director of Annual Giving, Interim Executive Director, and eventually became Senior Development Officer for the College of Human Sciences. She was also a member of the first Deans Advisory Council and won the College of Human Sciences Distinguished Alumnae Award.
“Kathy truly embodied the mission of the College of Human Sciences and sought to improve and enhance the lives of all those that she encountered,” Said College of Human Sciences Dean, Tim Dodd, Ph.D. “She was always thinking of creative and resourceful ways to connect people and advance our mission. Her work placed a large emphasis on cultivating a great relationship between our college and the Lubbock community, and left a tremendous impact along the way.”
Along with her love for development, Gilbreath was also involved in several local philanthropies. She was an active member of the Junior League, a founding member and president of the Association of Philanthropy, a consultant for the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts, a vice president of the CH Foundation, a member of the Covenant Hospital Board, and many more impactful roles.
Gilbreath leaves a legacy of service and civic devotion in the Lubbock community. She was known to family, friends, and colleagues as someone always willing to help others and assist those in need.
