How to Apply

Admission Criteria

• At least a master's degree in kinesiology, exercise science, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• A strong graduate grade point average.
• Clear evidence of independent research experience (e.g., thesis, manuscript, peer-reviewed publication, research project).

Admission Process

1. Review the doctoral advisors and determine which advisor and lab aligns with your research interests and mentorship style.
2. Contact that advisor and explain why you are interested in joining their lab. It is helpful to include your curriculum vitae at this point.
3. If and only if that advisor encourages you to apply, then begin your application on the Graduate School's How to Apply webpage.

Application Documents

• Curriculum vitae with evidence of academic achievements and relevant experiences.
• Three letters of recommendation from faculty mentors who can provide insights into your potential for success in a doctoral program. One letter must be from your research advisor during your graduate studies.
• At least one example of your scientific writing (e.g., thesis, manuscript, peer-reviewed publication, research project).
• A one- to two-page personal statement describing your academic preparation, interest in doctoral studies, professional goals, research skills, and teaching and work experiences. You must also identify which doctoral advisor is supporting your application.
