Master of Science in Sport Managment

How to Apply

Applications for admission are accepted year-round for admissions into the fall, spring, or summer semesters. Admission decisions are made based on a holistic review of a students background, past academic performance, career aspirations, and letters of recommendation. Graduate faculty will make a decision concerning admission after the application is referred to the department from the Graduate School. All items required by the department, as listed below, should be uploaded to the Texas Tech University Graduate School Application Portal.

Departmental Admission Requirements

  1. Personal Statement, which is a vital part of your application. Your statement must address (i) why you are interested in seeking a master's in sport management at Texas Tech University, (ii) why the curriculum, faculty, and other resources of the master's in sport management are the right fit for your graduate studies, (iii) how a master's in sport management will advance your career aspirations, and (iv) how your work experiences/internships in the sport industry have prepared you for a master's in sport management. Your personal statement will be evaluated based on your responses to the four criteria and on the quality of your writing. Furthermore, it is assumed that every applicant has a passion for sports, so do not use this as the primary justification to your responses. Finally, your personal statement cannot be primarily created by generative artificial intelligence (AI). You must include one of the two following generative AI honor statements: I, [full name], affirm that I did not use any form of AI to generate any portion of my personal statement, or I, [full name], affirm that I primarily wrote my personal statement, and I did not use it to generate the entire document; however, I used AI to clarify and/or enhance my statement.
  2. Resume or curriculum vitae with evidence of academic achievements and relevant experiences.
  3. An undergraduate degeee in sport management, kinesiology, or a related field from an accredited institution. Successful applicants typically have a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.8 in their last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework.
  4. Two letters of reference, one of which must be from a professor/faculty member familiar with your academic performance. Applicants who have not attended college in the last three years may use two professional references.
