Sundae Conversations: Coming Out Stories & Ice Cream Social

For LGBTQIA+ folks, coming out is a process that can be both frightening and liberating at the same time. Hosted by Tech Gender & Sexuality Association, this year's annual Coming Out Stories program invites all LGBTQIA and allied members of the Texas Tech community to share their coming out experiences, bond, and give/receive coming out tips and advice! Whether you want to share your story or just take in the moment and offer some snaps of support, this space is here to support you!

Join RISE and the Office of LGBTQIA Education & Engagement in tie dying a t-shirt and promoting identity expression. Students will learn about the diversity in the LGBTQIA community and explore the different flags representing diversity.
6:30 P.M. - 8:30 P.M. Student Union Building Canyon Room
Practicing allyship involves learning from those who have lived the experience. During this edu-social, participants will discuss the intricacies of intersectionality and how it impacts people's lives and allies abilities for promoting greater LGBTQIA inclusion. Meet Lynn Whitfield and Tricia Earl, curators of the PRIDE history exhibit at Texas Tech. Also learn about a continuing project, Faces of Pride, created by TTU student Katie Jensen. Learn about why she decided to begin the project and how you can add to her continued stories.
Beyond the Q - Celebrating Intersex Awareness Day and ACE Week

Come learn about the experiences of people who identify as part of of the LGBTQIA community that are often unheard of. Celebrate in knowing more about our diversity and help be warm, welcoming and accepting.

Queer Cult Classic - The Rocky Horror Picture Show

Organized by the TTU Honors College.
In this cult classic, sweethearts Brad (Barry Bostwick) and Janet (Susan Sarandon), stuck with a flat tire during a storm, discover the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry), a transvestite scientist. As their innocence is lost, Brad and Janet meet a houseful of wild characters, including a rocking biker (Meat Loaf) and a creepy butler (Richard O'Brien). Through elaborate dances and rock songs, Frank-N-Furter unveils his latest creation: a muscular man named "Rocky." (Google description).

Advocating for Queer and Trans Communities on our College Campuses. - Guest Speaker: Dr. Antonio Duran
Guided by his extensive research with queer and trans college students, staff, and faculty, Dr. Antonio Duran focuses on what it means to advocate for queer and trans communities in higher education. In particular, Dr. Duran will address the imperative to attend to queer and trans individuals with multiple minoritized identities. Moreover, the speaker will discuss how one's institutional contexts informs the advocacy necessary for queer and trans communities.
About Dr. Duran (www.drantonioduran.com): Dr. Antonio Duran (he/him/él) is an Assistant Professor in the Higher and Postsecondary Education program at Arizona State University. Antonio's research centers the experiences and lives of queer and trans communities in higher education. Stemming from his own experiences as a queer cisgender Latino man, Antonio is particularly passionate about uplifting queer and trans individuals with multiple minoritized identiites through his scholarship and practice.
