Dr. Marian Ann Montgomery at the Textile Research Center (TRC) in Leiden, The Netherlands

Dr. Marian Ann Montgomery, curator of clothing and textiles at the Museum of Texas Tech University, spoke to a group at the Textile Research Center (TRC) in Leiden, The Netherlands on April 18. Dr. Montgomery, spoke about the feed sacks embroidered by Belgian women as a thank you for food relief after World War I. Dr. Montgomery cares for more than 6,000 feed sack items as part of the clothing and textiles collection of the Museum. The collection includes the whole spectrum of feed sack materials from swatches to completed quilts.

Her lecture is part of the current TRC exhibition For a Few Sacks More, which can be seen until June 28. The Textile Research Centre was set up in 1991 as an independent foundation. The basic aim of the TRC is to give the study of textiles, clothing and accessories their proper place in the field of the humanities and social sciences.
