America 250

A Curated Community Exhibit

July 1 – September 6, 2026

As the United States commemorates the 250th anniversary, the Museum at Texas Tech University invites visitors to explore the stories, objects, and traditions that reflect our nation's history and enduring spirit in its newest exhibition, America 250: A Curated Community Exhibit.

Earlier this year, community members answered our call to share objects that commemorate the American Revolution, America's milestone anniversaries, or the independent spirit that has shaped the American experience. From treasured family heirlooms to keepsakes celebrating moments in our nation's history, each object offers a unique perspective on what America means to those who have preserved these stories.

The exhibition features these community-loaned objects alongside objects from the Museum's History and Clothing and Textiles collections, creating a conversation between personal memories and the broader American story. Together, these objects reveal that our nation's history extends far beyond its founding. They reflect generations of remembrance, celebration, service, innovation, and community, reminding us that history lives not only in monumental events, but also in the objects we cherish and the stories we choose to share.

America 250 celebrates the voices, experiences, and traditions that continue to shape the American story. We invite visitors to join us in the celebration.
