The Texas Tech Presidential Lecture and Performance Series

20 Seasons of Art and Culture on the South Plains

September 2026 – January 2027

Since its inaugural performance by the Paul Taylor Dance Company in September 2006, the Presidential Lecture & Performance Series (PLPS) has enriched the cultural life of Texas Tech University and the South Plains by bringing world-renowned artists, authors, scholars and performers to West Texas. Building on a tradition of presenting arts in the Allen Theatre that dates to 1976, PLPS was established by President Jon Whitmore to create meaningful connections between campus, community and the arts.

Over 20 seasons, the series has welcomed acclaimed guests including Lyle Lovett, David Sedaris, Tony Kushner, David Byrne and Taylor Sheridan, while offering students unique opportunities to engage with visiting artists through workshops, masterclasses and conversations. Since 2015, the annual Lubbock Lights Festival has celebrated the region's extraordinary musical heritage, honoring the artists and stories that define West Texas. Together, these programs reflect PLPS's enduring mission to honor the South Plains while connecting local audiences with voices and ideas from around the world.
