Gracious: Contemporary Poems in the 21st Century South
I have a contract with TTU Press to publish a book of contemporary poets (75 poets born after 1950, 2 poems each) from the South. I've spent the last two years reading hundreds of books by Southern poets and trying to select their best poems (shorter lyric poems, in most cases), while trying to represent a diversity of approaches and poets. The last comprehensive anthology of Southern poets appeared with U. Arkansas Press nearly 20 years ago. For the purposes of this anthology, Southern poets are those who were either born and raised in the South or have done a good portion of their mature work here. I am defining the geography of the South from Washington, D.C. down to Florida and across to Texas.
