Ken serves as the Director for the STEM Teaching, Engagement & Pedagogy (STEP) Program.
Additionally, he frequently assists with the organization and presentation of workshops
and conferences on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and Discipline-based
Education Research (DBER). Ken is a three-time Red Raider, holding a B.A. in Psychology,
with a B.S. and Ph.D. in Biology. His training and early research focused on the impacts
of environmental radiation on mammalian chromosomes and the cellular signaling processes
associated with human addiction. His current research focuses on Science, Technology,
Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) education research and specifically, how Evidence-Based
Instructional Research (EBIR) can affect STEM student persistence.
Ken is a contributing author for multiple textbook publishers in Anatomy and Physiology and is an instructor in the Department of Biological Sciences (DBS) at Texas Tech where he also serves on the Faculty Anatomy and Physiology Curriculum Committee. . In addition to teaching courses that include: Cell Biology, Experimental Cell Biology, Genetics, Biological Pedagogy and Human Physiology, he has also facilitated classroom management and technology-based workshops around the TTU campus. He is also on the advisory board for the McNair Scholars Program and The Center for Transformative Undergraduate Experiences (TrUE).
