Texas Tech's Rodeo Teams On Their Way

Texas Tech Men's rodeo team placed second out of 16 colleges & universities at the Sul Ross Rodeo held Oct. 2-4.

Logan Allen, a junior agricultural leadership major from Crescent, Iowa, lead TTU with points and was crowned champion all around cowboy of the rodeo and was awarded a beautiful trophy belt buckle. Logan placed second over all in the saddle bronc riding and second over all in the bull riding.

Jacob Nebeker, a senior agriculture and applied economics major from Battle Mt., NV, won first in the saddle bronc riding.

Jake Brown and Blaine Vick won first in the team roping with a blistering 6.0 second run in the finals to win the short go and the championship aggregate on two steers. 

Other members that advanced to the top ten finals Saturday night included:

Boone Gaines, a freshman animal and food sciences major from Sikeston, MO, finished 8th in the steer wrestling.

Richard George, a freshman business major from Dallas, Texas placed 4th in the first go round in the bull riding and 7th overall.

Courtney Rankin, a sophomore animal and food sciences major from Tuscola, Texas, finished 9th the barrel racing.

Next the Tech rodeo team will travel to Vernon for their colleges host rodeo Oct. 9-11, then off a week before Tech will host the 59th Annual Texas Tech University National Intercollegiate Rodeo Oct. 23-25.

The rodeo will be held at the Texas Tech Equestrian Center indoor arena. Tickets at the door are $8 for Thursday and Friday and tickets for top ten finals Saturday night are $10. Thursday, Oct. 23 is university night and students with valid Tech id are admitted half price.
