Mayfield Scholarship

The Mayfield Scholarship was established in 2017 by Dr. Kerry and Mrs. Chyrel Mayfield. Scholarships are awarded to students in the Department of Plant and Soil Science who are specializing in Crop Science or the Department of Agricultural Education and Communications who are specializing in Agricultural Communications who have a 3.0 GPA.

Dr. Kerry Mayfield graduated from Texas Tech with a Bachelor of Science in Agronomy and Crop Science in 1997 and went on to earn a master's degree and PHD in Agricultural and Horticultural Plant Breeding from Texas A&M University in 2011. He is the Associate Director for Breeding with Chromotin in Lubbock specializing in sorghum. Prior to that he was a corn breeder with Triumph Seed Company and a Senior Research Associate with Texas AgriLife Research.

Chyrel Mayfield graduated from Texas Tech with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Communications in 1997. She went on to earn a master's degree in Agricultural Education and a graduate certificate in eLearning Development from Texas A&M University. She is now the Associate Director of Instructional Design and Curriculum Development for the Texas Tech University Department of eLearning and Academic Partnerships.

As the Associate Director for Instructional Design and Curriculum Development, Chyrel oversees the work of the Instructional Design team. This includes both higher education and TTU K-12. She has worked at Texas Tech University since May 2010. Prior to coming to Texas Tech, Mayfield worked for Texas AgriLife Extension, Department of Ecosystem Science and Management, in the area of online learning.
