About Soledad O'Brien:

Soledad O'Brien is an anchor and special correspondent for CNN, reporting breaking news from around the globe and producing the award-winning In America documentary series. O'Brien covers political news as part of CNN's "Best Political Team on Television" and hosts CNN's morning show, Starting Point. O'Brien's latest documentary, Black in America 4: The New Promised Land, Silicon Valley, follows eight black tech entrepreneurs trying to break onto the start-up scene. Her other documentaries include theLatino in America and Black in America series, Unwelcome: The Muslims Next Door; Almighty Debt;Rescued, a look at Haiti's children after the devastating earthquake; and Gary and Tony Have a Baby, the story of a gay couple's struggle to have a baby. O'Brien is author of the critically acclaimed book, The Next Big Story: My Journey through the Land of Possibilities, which chronicles her biggest reporting moments and the impact her upbringing and background had on those experiences. She won the 2010 National Association of Black Journalists "Journalist of the Year" award, the Edward R. Murrow RTDNA/UNITY Award for Latino in America, and was part of the teams that won CNN a George Foster Peabody Award for BP oil spill and Katrina coverage and an Alfred I. duPont award for tsunami coverage. A steadfast believer in the power of education and mentoring, O'Brien commits considerable time and financial support to the foundation she and her husband founded. Each year, the Soledad O'Brien and Brad Raymond Foundation awards ten scholarships to underprivileged young women from across the US, funding their entire college educations. A working mother and successful journalist in a fast-paced and demanding business, Soledad O'Brien addresses many of today's most important topics including the media, diversity, and women's issues, among others.
