The Institute For the Development and Enrichment of Advanced Learners (IDEAL)
The mission of IDEAL is to provide distinctive and unique outreach programs that promote academic excellence and diversity. The most important work is introducing underrepresented students to a collegiate experience and dispelling myths and fears about higher education. Programs are often designed to address a particular need but all programs are designed to give children a successful academic experience on a university campus.
Programs offered are: Building A College Going Community academic club; LISD School, Iles Crusader Raiders. Two sessions of Super Saturdays are offered annually. Shake Hands With Your Future and Science: It's A Girl Thing are academic/residential summer camps offered in June and July.

Wind Engineering Camp- View Brochure/Enroll
In the not too distant future, clean renewable energy sources will provide much of the electricity for the world’s population. Wind power production is rapidly expanding, dotting the landscape with spinning turbines that promise the delivery of clean energy. Wind power is indeed a growth industry of the 21st Century and with it comes an emerging body of knowledge. Ensuring the growth of this clean energy source is largely dependent upon creating a competent well-educated workforce. Run on The Wind will provide young scholars an introduction to the field of wind science and an opportunity to consider wind science as a future academic pursuit.
Session topics and activities include:

Many IDEAL classes are created, taught and supervised by Teacher Partners, outstanding teachers from area classrooms, who are selected by the Center for the Integration of Science Education and Research (CISER) at Texas Tech University. Teacher Partners work to plan and implement curriculum aligned with the national and state standards in science education. CISER faculty members with extensive training in writing model curriculum following state educational standards team with Teacher Partners to develop engaging activities designed for the gifted learner. The focus for the program follows The National Science Teachers Association philosophy that all children should be taught as gifted learners in science. The program uses inquiry based activities to challenge students to explore and solve problems by applying the processes of science to enhance and promote science training. CISER co-founded and sponsors the academic summer camp: Science It's A Girl Thing.
