a keynote address by nationally renowned
Cherokee film star Wes Studi, best known for
his work in the title
role Geronimo: An American Legend. Studi
is an activist, musician and talented actor
with dozens of film credits to his name.
Opening
celebration - Native American Sacred
Smudging Ceremony led by Jacob Galvan, a
Mescalero Apache from Lubbock. A smudging
ceremony is described as a ritualistic
blessing designed to cleanse or purify a
person, place with smoke from sacred plants
and herbal resins, then, either passing an
object through the smoke or fanning the
smoke around a person or place.
