Latino Education Summit
Texas Tech University hosted the first Latino Education Summit on March 31, 2010 at the Overton Conference Center.
The summit followed the national observance of Latino Education and Advocacy Day (LEAD) on March 29, 2010 where advocates and professionals from across the country discussed best practices for Latino/a youth.
Texas Tech convened a group of advocates and education professionals to discuss factors contributing to the academic success of Latino/a youth in West Texas. Educators, superintendents, presidents of colleges and universities, and state and national policy experts presented to over 200 attendees. Topics varied from the increasing Latino/a population in West Texas to academic and community support services.
The Texas Tech University Latino Education Summit serves as the inaugural event to future summits and conferences on themes relating to academic and inclusive excellence.
