Digital systems dominate facilities

Students in all Mass Comm major sequences are instructed using the most current technologies. This involves a wide range of computer labs and specialized systems. Because digital communications technologies are evolving at such a rapid rate, the College of Mass Communications replaces one computer lab each year.

A snapshot of systems available in 2007 follows. The machines in the basic classroom (013) were phased out in the fall of 2003 and replaced with current technology.

Basic PC Computing Classroom (013): Twenty-one Pentium 4 2.0ghz PC computers with 17-inch SVGA monitors. Software includes basic Internet packages, Microsoft Office and FrontPage. All systems in the lab print to a Hewlett Packard LaserJet 4000N networked laser printer.

Computer-Based Writing Classroom (015): Twenty-one 17-inch Apple Macintosh iMacs.. Software includes basic Internet packages, Microsoft Office and FrontPage, ScriptWriter 2000 and SPSS.

Advanced Multi-Media Classroom (002): Twenty Pentium 4 2.8mghz PC computers with 17-inch SVGA monitors. Software includes Macromedia Flash, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Adobe Photoshop, Avid free DV and Sonic MyDVD.

Advanced Macintosh Computing Classroom (016): Twenty-One Macintosh OSX G5s with 21-inch monitors and flatbed scanners. Software includes basic Internet packages, Microsoft Office and FrontPage, PhotoShop, Illustrator and InDesign. The lab has 3 network printers - 1 Phaser 840 color printer and two Epson Stylus 3000 photo-quality, large-format inkjet printers.
