EM&C Degree Requirements
Objectives:
To provide students who desire a career in commercial broadcasting or cable communications with a curriculum emphasizing both theoretical and practical course work. The degree is based on a strong liberal arts core of courses and professional radio and television courses.General Requirements (see catalog for specific details):

- Foreign Language 6-16 hours*

- Visual & Performing Arts 3 hours

Required EM&C Courses:
Three hours writing intensive chosen from the following: EM & C 3360**, 3370**, 4370** and 4375**. Nine additional hours may be selected from any Electronic Media and Communications course.
**Enrollment in first writing intensive course requires passing Grammar, Spelling, Punctuation exam given in the College of Mass Communications and minimum 2.75 GPA
Required Mass Communications elective courses:
Three to six semester hours selected, with the advice and consent of your advisor, from mass communications courses (EM&C, Advertising, Photocommunications, Journalism, Broadcast Journalism, Public Relations). A minimum of 39 hours or a maximum of 42 hours is required to be taken from Mass Communications courses. Students are required to complete a minimum of 90 hours outside the College of Mass Communications.
Required Adjunct Courses:
- Principles of Economics ECO 2305 or Economics I, II ECO 2301 and 2302
- Statistical Methods MATH 2300 or Introduction to Business Statistics MATH 2345
Required Minor:
A minor consists of a minimum of 18 hours. Students are free to choose, but suggested minors for EM&C majors include: Management, Marketing, General Business, Finance, Management Information Systems or Economics. Mass Communications majors are required to select their minor outside of the College of Mass Communications.
Job/Internship Opportunities:
EM&C students will find job and internship opportunities at both television and radio stations, as well as video production, entertainment, educational video, promotions and religious organizations. Universities and public school systems that utilize EM&C are also possibilities. In addition, more and more jobs are being
created by businesses and corporations that are employing new technology and EM&C systems.
The EM&C and electronic media communications industries are constantly evolving making for a more diverse pool of available jobs for EM&C
graduates.
