Something From Scratch: SOTD Students Collaborate with Professional Dance Company

On Wednesday, March 1, the School of Theatre and Dance, in partnership with the Presidential Lecture and Performance Series (PLPS), hosted a masterclass from Emmy-winning dance company, Pilobolus. Celebrating their 50th Anniversary, this masterclass was offered as a part of Pilobolus’s Big Five-OH! tour, marking their first return to Texas Tech since 2010.

Students Recognized at KCACTF Region 6 Festival

At the end of February, Texas Tech University Theatre and Dance students traveled to Abilene where they participated in the Region 6 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF). This was the first time in three years KCACTF was not held virtually. Students were excited to be in-person once again to show their skills in directing, performance, design, management, and arts advocacy.

A State-of-the-Art Performance Venue

It’s life-changing to have a state-of-the-art performance venue, maybe the finest in Texas, and I am immensely proud that we have a Dean, President, and Chancellor at Texas Tech who believed in the arts enough to help us raise the money for this extraordinary facility, one that will allow us to better educate the theatre and dance practitioners of the future.

In Motion

Last week was tech week for DanceTech! We spent our evenings in The CH Foundation The Legacy of Christine DeVitt Black Box Theatre applying the final design touches to our seven dance works. Rehearsals for some works began in the fall semester, while others were put together with a few rehearsals this semester. Each work is quite different and showcases the true brilliance of our student performers.
